Speculations about the possibility of organizing negotiations with Kiev if the Ukrainian authorities prohibit them themselves are absurd. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov on December 12 when answering Izvestiya's question.

"The possibility of negotiations is not equal to the abolition of the self-ban on such negotiations imposed by the same Kiev. That is, the absurdity of speculation about any negotiations, given that they are nominally banned, is probably obvious to everyone except those who are involved in determining Kiev's policy," Ryabkov pointed out.

The Russian deputy foreign minister added that the Ukrainian authorities are understood to mean not only those who directly run the country on Bankova Street, but also those involved in politics thousands of kilometers away from Kiev.

"That's when all these places will realize that it is necessary to start with what is required first, first priority, then, perhaps, it will be possible to pay some attention to this. Not yet," the diplomat noted.

Ryabkov also clarified that Russia is open to dialog with the administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.

"Nuances, some clarifications, some details will surely arise, but we will not see Washington radically abandoning its anti-Russian course. But we are open to dialog, ready, and the President [Russian President Vladimir Putin] has repeatedly said so," he said.

Earlier, on December 11, former Ukrainian MP and member of the international public movement The Other Ukraine Spyridon Kilinkarov told Izvestia that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired in May) bears personal responsibility for the current conflict, and many residents of the country understand this. No one has any doubts that elections of the head of state should be held in the near future.

Before that, on December 9, it became known that Zelensky at the past in the Elysee Palace trilateral meeting with Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the freezing of the conflict with Russia. It was noted that the Ukrainian leader does not want to stop hostilities without receiving security guarantees, namely NATO membership or the deployment of Western troops in Ukraine.

Political scientist Alexander Dudchak shared with Izvestia the opinion that Zelensky and the West do not want a full-fledged peaceful settlement. At the same time, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said that Moscow is always open to negotiations on Ukraine, the Kiev regime and the Western countries that run it are closed.

At the same time, Trump said that the head of the Kiev regime would like to "make a deal" with Russia. According to him, it is necessary to immediately cease fire and start negotiations, otherwise the Ukrainian conflict may worsen. In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled that Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine and welcomes proposals from China, India, Brazil and other countries.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
