Stalinist high-rises continue to be restored in Moscow, returning them to their historical appearance. Part of the work has already been done, the plans include restoration of the main building of Lomonosov Moscow State University on the Vorobyovy Gory and the building of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in his official Telegram channel the mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin.
"These are some of the most recognizable buildings in the city. In total, as you know, there are seven of them, each is an object of cultural heritage. We are working or plan to so far in three of them", - explained the mayor.
The residential buildings of the high-rise on the Red Gate Square have been restored. Specialists cleaned the stucco decor and made up for the losses, installed wooden balcony handrails and restored the plaster layer, restored the building's original color, recreated windows with brass fittings and roof balustrade. Extensive work was also carried out on the stylobate. On the facades and in the passage arches they managed to return the lighting fixtures of the 50s - according to archival materials. In 2025, the restorers will complete the work in the entrances, where the stucco decor, broom tiles and metal fencing grates have been preserved.
The works in the main building of MSU will also affect the main decoration - the star mounted on the 50-meter spire. It will be restored without dismantling - they will have to work at a height of more than 230 meters.
In addition, specialists will clean the facades of the central part of the MFA building and two 16-storey annexes, tidy up the roof, replace the basement cladding and restore the historic appearance of windows and doors. The interiors of the right extension will also be renovated.
