Many car owners are concerned if the case of a new car battery bulges out a bit or looks bloated. ENERGON's product manager Dmitry Nikolaevich told Izvestia on December 15 about what you need to know not to confuse a normal technological process with signs of malfunction.

According to him, at the final stage of battery production, the plates inside the device undergo special stages of intensive charging and discharging. This process is important to ensure that the active materials inside the battery acquire the best performance parameters. During the molding process, gases can be released inside the battery, which contribute to an increase in internal pressure and temperature. Under their influence, the battery walls deform slightly, for example by 6 mm for a total length of 100 mm.

"Small bulges are normal and temporary. When the battery goes to normal use, the internal chemistry stabilizes and the pressure is reduced. Over time, the case usually returns to its original shape," Nikolayevich explained.

According to the specialist, a number of manufacturers use special types of plastic and increase the wall thickness of the case compared to conventional ones. This helps reduce deformation levels during the molding process. Nevertheless, even high quality models may have small bulges. This is a natural element of the production cycle, not an indication of poor quality.

"Slightly deformed walls on a new battery are the result of natural chemical reactions during molding charge. This is a normal stage in the 'formation' of the battery, and after several cycles of use, the case, as a rule, 'deflates' back," Nikolayevich summarized.

Earlier, on November 21, Roman Sokuev, head of the technical expertise center of Sintec Lubricants, told Izvestia about the harm of idle time for a car. According to him, if the car has been idle on the street for about a year, it is worth replacing the engine oil in it. If it has been in a warm box without moving, nothing critical should happen.
