European Commissioner for Energy pledges to sever fuel ties with Russia

The new European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen has promised that in the future he will break ties with Russia in the fuel sector. This was reported by the newspaper Politico on December 12.
"Dan Jorgensen considers his "top priority" to develop a plan that will finally break all energy ties of the European Union with Russia," - stated in the material.
It is specified that in the first interview after taking office he warned that the European Union (EU) system "gives failures in the multi-year campaign", which concerns the rejection of Russian gas. At that time, the European Commissioner emphasized that the union needs a plan "to get things back on track." Thus, in his opinion, it is necessary to use renewable energy sources more actively for the sake of reducing the dependence of EU countries on Russian gas supplies, "Gazeta.Ru" adds.
Jorgensen also noted the growing EU purchases of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a special problem. At the same time, it is specified that the EU still depends on Russia for nuclear fuel.
"[The plan] will primarily [focus] on gas, but also on oil and nuclear energy," the European Commissioner emphasized.
He added that the plan will be implemented within the first 100 days after he takes office. Thus, the deadline for implementation is March 2025.
Earlier, on December 6, financial analyst, candidate of economic sciences Mikhail Belyaev told "Izvestia" that Europe cannot do without Russian gas. According to him, Europe has exhausted its ability to rationalize consumption.
Before that, on November 27, Bloomberg agency predicted the coldest winter for Europe since the refusal of European countries from gas from Russia. According to the agency's estimates, energy prices are expected to rise and energy risks are expected to increase.
In October, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said that Europe's policy on the gas market could lead to a new gas price shock and supply disruptions. He called the situation on the European gas market bad and agreed with the assessment that demand for energy resources there is being destroyed purposefully.
