The American corporation Meta (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) has donated $1 million to the foundation of US President-elect Donald Trump in order to establish relations with the future leader of the country. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on December 11.

"Meta has donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural fund, the latest move by CEO Mark Zuckerberg to strengthen his once-tense relationship with the incoming president," the newspaper said in the piece.

It is specified that this step differs from the usual policy of the company: Meta did not invest in the Trump Foundation in the election in 2017, and also did not sponsor the foundation of the current American leader Joe Biden in 2021.

WSJ recalled that in his book "Save America" Trump accused the businessman of conspiring against him in the 2020 election, and during the campaign in 2024 he threatened to put an American businessman in jail if he interfered in the election.

At the same time, writes WSJ, Zuckerberg met with Trump in November this year at the residence of the future head of state in the state of Florida. The newspaper's sources reported that the entrepreneur presented Trump with "smart" glasses Meta Ray-Ban.

In addition, the company's top managers were in contact with future members of the administration of the president-elect, the material says.

Earlier, on November 27, The New York Times wrote that Zuckerberg tried to establish relations with Trump in the last 18 months. In September, the American politician in an interview with New York Magazine said that the founder of the company called him after the assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania, which occurred on July 13, and said that there was no way he could not vote for Democrats in the elections in November.

On August 26, Zuckerberg admitted that the U.S. government had pressured the corporation to censor content on the organization's social media accounts. He specified that the censorship affected posts on the topic of the coronavirus and content probably related to the involvement of Joe Biden 's son Hunter in crimes.

Later, American political scientist, lawyer and former Pennsylvania state senator Bruce Marks told Izvestia that the words of the head of Meta are favorable to Trump in the presidential race.

Relations between Trump and Zuckerberg soured after Meta-owned social network Facebook (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) blocked Trump's account in early 2021 after riots staged by his supporters at the Capitol in January of that year. Five people were killed then and dozens were arrested. Facebook reinstated his account in early 2023.
