Fitzo considered it a personal duty to visit Moscow on Victory Day in 2025

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo said that he considers a visit to Moscow on Victory Day in 2025 a personal duty for himself. The politician said this in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo on December 12.
He noted that the population of Slovakia is well aware that fascism in Europe was defeated only with the participation of the USSR.
"In Slovakia they know about it (the role of the USSR in the victory over fascism. - Ed.), I consider it (coming to Moscow for the Victory Day parade. - Ed.) a personal duty, because it will be the 80th anniversary [of the liberation of Czechoslovakia]. Without the Soviet Union, fascism would never have been defeated, and World War II would never have been won," Fitzo said.
The politician added that Slovakia advocates a course to normalize relations with Russia and opposes a new iron curtain in the European Union (EU).
Earlier, on November 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited military units of the CSTO countries to take part in the May 9 Victory Parade on Red Square in 2025. The day before, Fitzo said he had accepted the Russian leader's official invitation to attend the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. He noted that the peoples of the former Soviet Union played an irreplaceable role in defeating fascism and winning World War II.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 30 that Moscow intends to invite world leaders, in addition to the heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War in 2025. He specified that everyone who wants to come to the celebration will be welcome in the capital.
In September 2023, Putin called to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War brightly and solemnly. According to him, it is necessary to fill all events with deep content.
In 2025, May 9 marks 80 years since the victory in the Great Patriotic War. In January 1945, the USSR army launched an offensive on Berlin. As a result of the fighting at 00:43 Moscow time on May 9, the commanders-in-chief signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany, which served as the end of the Great Patriotic War.
