The area of the fire in Malibu in the state of California has reached more than 1.6 thousand hectares. According to the latest data, it has been localized only on 7%. This was reported by CBS television channel on Wednesday, December 11.

Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone noted that during the last night the fire increased in size by 39%, for the most part it spreads to the west. Suppression has been hampered, however, by challenging weather conditions as before.

"Deep and rugged terrain, as well as strong winds and low humidity continue to pose challenges for firefighters," the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said.

The fire has already destroyed nine structures and partially damaged six others. No fatalities or injuries have been reported. In the neighborhoods nearby, which are in the risk zone, is being evacuated.

The cause of the initial fire remains unknown. Arson investigators are involved in the investigation.

Malibu city officials have opened an emergency station where evacuating residents can get water, food and first aid if needed.

"The Sheriff's Department is conducting evacuations in the following manner: they go door-to-door. They drive down the streets with a brass horn and knock on every door. They wake people up and get them out of their homes," said Malibu city spokesman Matt Meyerhoff.

The fire broke out back on December 10, and at that time its area was 900 hectares. It was noted that due to strong winds, which reached 64 km / h, and low humidity of 5%, the situation became more difficult, due to which the fire spread faster.
