On December 12, the Russian Defense Ministry showed footage of the work of the engineer-sapper company of the Vostok group of troops in clearing the village of Pavlovka near Donetsk of explosive objects.

The video showed how Russian servicemen in anti-explosive suits and with the help of modern mine detectors carry out engineering reconnaissance of the area, demining roads and homestead plots. Often they come across enemy caches, minefields and unexploded shells.

An engineering platoon commander with the call sign Asbest said that mined farm fields are now very common. He also shared that the Russian military is optimistic, "the atmosphere is combative."

The ministry noted that the Russian Armed Forces (AF) sappers have been approached for help by local residents who ask them to check their homes and plots for explosive objects. The enemy leaves clever traps and stretching rods in the most unexpected places.

When a mine or other dangerous projectile is found, sappers extract it for further neutralization or destroy it on the spot using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Since the beginning of the year, sappers have neutralized several thousand different types of mines of the Soviet model, as well as unexploded elements of cluster munitions, mines of foreign production.

Earlier, on December 10, it became known that demining operations had been carried out in the village of Selidovo in the DNR, which was liberated during the special military operation. Despite the fact that the enemy has been pushed back to a considerable distance, Ukrainian militants are still dropping anti-tank mines with the help of industrial unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

On this day, it was also reported that Ukraine is using Western-made shells, which are internationally banned, to mine territories. By doing so, Kiev is trying to slow down the advance of Russian troops along the entire line of contact.

Before that, on November 23, Russian sappers demined a road in the border area of the Kursk region. They are inspecting infrastructure facilities for explosive objects and demining roads, paving the way for assault units in the border region.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian Federation on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made amid the worsening situation in the region.
