- Political analyst commented on the relations between Syria and the West after Assad's resignation

The current situation in Syria was expected: Europe and the United States will never help Damascus, as Syrian citizens have freedom of thought. On December 12, political scientist and Middle East expert Mais Kurbanov said in a conversation with Izvestia.
"[Former Syrian President] Bashar al-Assad was the opposition for Europeans and Americans, [Syrians] could not cope with [Assad's family] for more than 50 years. When business came to Europe, they made him the opposition. Based on this, many groups that have now come to power in Syria are descended from European migrants," Kurbanov said.
According to him, when Assad left the country, the West's enemies in Syria disappeared. The political analyst also said that the borders are actually closed, the reception of migrants has been suspended.
"Europe will never help Syria because Syrian citizens are brought up differently, they are not like Jordanians and Egyptians, they have freedom of thought, for 70 years they were brought up differently," Kurbanov noted.
If the state does not continue in the direction it was during Bashar al-Assad's presidency, they will not stay there for long, they will disintegrate in about a year. As for aid, there will be no aid, because it is favorable to the West that Syria will always be in a fragmented form.
Earlier, on December 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, left the post of head of state and left the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully.
On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces in Syria said it was working on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the ministers of the Syrian government remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.
Against this backdrop, the IDF announced the deployment of forces along the Syrian border to ensure the safety of communities in the Golan Heights and Israeli citizens. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the demarcation agreement with Syria has been terminated due to the withdrawal of Syrian troops.
The situation in Syria has escalated following a major attack by militias in Aleppo and Idlib that began on November 28 and led to a Syrian army response against the militants.
