The Parliament of Abkhazia adopted amendments to the law on citizenship


On December 11, deputies of the Parliament of Abkhazia adopted in the second and final reading amendments to the law "On Citizenship".
The bill establishes additional conditions for the procedure of admission to citizenship of Abkhazia in the general and simplified order and restoration of citizenship. The bill was initiated by MP Dmitry Marshania. He explained that the document expands the concept of the state register.
"The project envisages the creation of a state register, which will accumulate data of all those admitted to citizenship of the republic,"Apsnypressquoted Marshania as saying.
He also noted that the register will store all the information and grounds on which one or another person was granted citizenship.
The amendments will come into force on May 1, 2025.
On December 9, Acting Prime Minister of Abkhazia Valery Bganba called on Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin to return social payments in the republic.
Acting Finance Minister of the republic Vladimir Delba said on December 6 that Abkhazia has no funds to pay salaries to employees of budgetary organizations. He noted that if the consolidation of efforts to find funds for the purchase of electricity in the republic continues, then salaries will not be paid either.
