The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will hold an emergency meeting at Ukraine's request on 12 December. This was announced by Russia's permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov on 11 December.

"Tomorrow, the IAEA Board of Governors will hold an emergency meeting at Ukraine's request to discuss 'the consequences of unstable energy infrastructure critical to the safety of nuclear power plants,'" he wrote in his Telegram channel, adding that linking the two topics to each other was beyond the agency's mandate.

The day before, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian military had ensured the safe conduct of the next rotation of IAEA mission observers at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZNPP).

Later, the agency's director general, Rafael Grossi, said that an IAEA official vehicle was attacked by a drone on the road to the ZNPP. He condemned what happened and called for respect. In addition, Grossi recalled the inadmissibility of attacks on nuclear power plants, calling what happened unacceptable.

Zaporizhzhya region, where the nuclear power plant is located, became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. Since then, Zaporizhzhya NPP has been under constant IAEA control.
