A chemist spoke about the use of algae in cosmetic products

Algae is a frequent component of cosmetics, most often spirulina, kelp and fucus are found in the composition of products because of their beneficial properties. Natalia Tkachenko, a cosmetic chemist and founder of the Roz Mary beauty brand, told Izvestia on December 13.
"First of all, [algae] moisturize the skin very well, the hydration from some algae is much stronger than from hyaluronic acid. Also, algae contribute to the regeneration of the skin, its recovery, for example, after some traumatic procedures," the expert said.
She added that some algae have anti-cellulite effect, fat-burning and lymphatic drainage properties.
According to the expert, spirulina contains vitamins B1, B2, B3, omega-3 and omega-6, as well as minerals and antioxidants. Algae is used in different cosmetic forms - in creams, serums and masks. Laminaria is more often added to body products - it contains a large amount of iodine and improves the process of splitting fat. It can be found in wrapping products, scrubs with anti-cellulite and tightening effect. Laminaria in a facial cream will moisturize the skin well and increase its elasticity.
Ficus in cosmetics has an anti-edema effect, also moisturizes, smooths fine lines, has an anti-inflammatory effect and improves regeneration, she concluded.
Earlier, on November 9, Tkachenko told Izvestia about the effect of vitamins in the composition of cosmetics. According to her, they are the most important components of cosmetics and are able to improve the quality of the skin. Most often vitamins A, E, C and B group are used in beauty products.
