In Sri Lanka, about 10,000 residents have fallen ill with a fever unknown to medics. This was reported on December 11 by the Daily Mirror with reference to representatives of the Ministry of Health of the state.

According to assumptions of medics, the focus of the disease in the city of Jaffna may be caused by the so-called rat fever, which occurs against the background of unfavorable weather conditions in Sri Lanka. Floods and rains inundate many areas, causing an increase in the number of sick people.

The main vectors are considered to be rodents and insectivores.

Tests have been taken from the sick to investigate the disease and its treatment.

Before that, on December 3, 143 people died of an unknown disease in the southwestern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is specified that a team of doctors was sent to the zone to conduct analysis to detect the disease. At the same time, the number of infected continues to grow.
