Electricity has been cut off throughout the territory of Abkhazia after the shutdown of the Inguri hydroelectric power plant due to critically low water levels. This was reported on Wednesday, December 11, in the press service of "Chernomorenergo".

"Due to the critical water level in the reservoir and insufficient water inflow, Inguri hydroelectric power plant was forced to make an emergency shutdown," - quotes the company's statement "RIA Novosti".

It is specified that to ensure stable power supply a new schedule of power supply during the daytime is introduced. Details will be published later. Night mode of energy saving (from 21:00 to 7:00) remains unchanged.

Earlier, on December 9, acting Prime Minister of Abkhazia Valery Bganba announced the closure of schools and kindergartens in Abkhazia due to the emergency in the energy sector. It was noted that the measures taken will be in effect for a week. He also called on Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin to return social payments in the republic.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the situation, said that Russia and Abkhazia were discussing the topics of the investment agreement and social payments to the residents of the republic.
