If the administration of newly elected US President Donald Trump is serious about resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Russia is ready to consider the proposals. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters on Wednesday, December 11.

"If the next US administration is serious about taking up this issue and will put forward some ideas here or another, of course, there will be an open position on our part, we will study it. But studying is not the same as agreeing," TASS quoted him as saying.

The diplomat noted that Moscow 's position on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict has been repeatedly expressed by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ryabkov added that it was the points proposed by the Russian leader that should become the basis for resolving the issue.

Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that Trump told Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20) and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron during a meeting in Paris that he wanted a ceasefire and negotiations.

Earlier, on December 8, The New York Times reported that the meeting between Trump and Zelensky at the opening of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris demonstrated Kiev's willingness to make concessions on negotiations in the conflict with Russia. It was specified that Ukraine perceived the opening ceremony as an opportunity to get closer to the future US leader and convey to him its position in the conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled on December 8 that Russian President Vladimir Putin had repeatedly said that Russia was open for talks on Ukraine and welcomed proposals from China, India, Brazil and other countries.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
