- State Duma bans admission to schools of migrant children without knowledge of Russian language

The State Duma has passed a law prohibiting enrollment in schools of migrant children who do not know the Russian language. This is evidenced by the information published in the system of ensuring legislative activity on December 11.
In his Telegram-channel, the Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin indicated that 409 deputies supported the initiative out of 410 who voted for the adoption of the bill and one parliamentarian opposed it.
"Before enrolling a child in school, it will be mandatory to check the legality of his or her stay on the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as knowledge of the Russian language," Volodin added in his message.
On the eve of the deputies approved in the first reading of the bill providing for mandatory testing in Russian language for children of migrants at admission to school. The Chairman of the State Duma noted that all who come to the Russian Federation, must know the Russian language, respect culture and history, as well as strictly comply with the laws of the state.
Before that, on November 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to prepare a federal algorithm for working with the children of migrants who have poor command of the Russian language or do not speak it at all. He recalled that foreign applicants for admission to Russian universities are tested on the Russian language, and noted that it should receive a single standard.
Prior to that, on September 19, the Ministry of Education said that they are working on legislative initiatives to introduce mandatory language diagnostics for children of migrants. This will make it possible to organize additional Russian language classes for them in advance, if necessary.
