Military surgeon after Putin's order to find and award him told about his feat

On Wednesday, December 11, a military surgeon with the call sign Kastet, whom Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to find and award for his heroic deed, told about saving a wounded soldier in a hospital in Belgorod Region.
On the eve of the meeting of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, Putin proposed to present a Belgorod surgeon, who delivered an unexploded shell fuse from the wound of a Russian army soldier, for a state award.
In May this year, a wounded man who had been hit by an FPV drone explosion was brought to a regional clinic in a serious condition. During surgery, surgeons found an object in the patient's soft tissues that looked like an unexploded charge.
Doctors could not make any further decision as it was dangerous to continue with the surgery. The surgeon with the call sign Kastet told the hospital staff to leave the operating room and continued to extract the charge alone, risking his life. According to the doctor, there was no time for reflection, so he made the decision to continue the operation on his own immediately.
"Probably no one wants to take risks. And I thought at the same moment... Yes, it was scary. Common sense did not say that probably there are risks, and they are not insignificant. <...> Well I somehow decided that... I should do it. <...> I don't know, I guess I was raised that way by my parents," Kastet shared with IA Regnum.
He added that before that he had experience working with patients who suffered from NATO cluster mines called "bells". In addition, after this case, he performed two more operations that required the extraction of FPV drone parts. However, the subsequent cases were not as risky.
That said, Kastet added that he doesn't consider his act a feat.
"You operate every 24 hours. Once I had nine operations in a day, I stood from morning to evening in the operating room," said the surgeon.
Earlier, on December 9, on the occasion of the Day of Heroes of the Fatherland, Putin presented "Gold Star" medals to the military, awarded the title of Heroes of Russia. The head of state awarded the medals to Major Sergei Selivanov, Warrant Officer Artem Prokhoda, Lieutenant Denis Raspopov, Private Alexei Asylkhanov, Captain Valeria Enina, Colonel Dmitry Sablin.
