- Macron discussed the situation in the country with the founder of the Georgian Dream party

French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the situation in the country with the founder of Georgia's ruling party Bidzina Ivanishvili. This was reported by Publika on December 11 with reference to the press service of the Georgian Dream.
It is specified that during an hour-long telephone conversation with Ivanishvili Macron expressed regret about the situation in Georgia and "expressed his desire to contribute to the complete relief of the situation."
The press service noted that the conversation took place at the initiative of the French leader.
"Ivanishvili and Macron agreed that contact will be resumed in the coming days and the progress made will be assessed," the Georgian Dream said in a statement.
Protests are underway in Georgia over the suspension of European integration talks and the opposition's disagreement with the results of parliamentary elections. Protesters tried to set fire to the Georgian parliament building and damaged dozens of offices, and law enforcement agencies had to use tear gas.
On December 9, Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Darakhvelidze said that more than 400 people had been detained during the protests in Tbilisi. According to him, more than 30 people were brought to criminal responsibility, administrative proceedings were initiated against 372 people, of whom 62 citizens were imprisoned and more than 100 were fined.
Against the background of these events, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili refused to resign after the expiration of her term of office at the end of December. In response, the country's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze warned that she would be required by law to leave office.
