Bloomberg reported on NATO's desire to set new weapons production targets

NATO leaders plan to set new weapons production targets that will force alliance members to spend 3% of GDP on defense, Bloomberg reported Dec. 11.
"Currently, North Atlantic Treaty Organization asks allies to spend 2% of gross domestic product on defense. New capability targets could raise that goal to 3% of GDP," the report said.
Under the plan in question, alliance members would have to increase production of both weapons, especially air defense systems, offensive weapons and nuclear deterrents, and ammunition as early as next year.
Earlier, on November 7, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the alliance countries will spend more than 2% of GDP on defense, as demanded by US President-elect Donald Trump. He noted that the American leader in his previous presidential term was right in saying that NATO countries should spend more than 2% on defense.
