An educator gave advice on how to support a child during exams

Parents are just as anxious as their children during exam preparation. They want to provide support and take some action to help their pupils cope with the huge amount of work to be done. Victoria Podsukhina, a teacher, head of regional teaching of MAXIMUM Education company, told "Izvestia" on December 12 about how to support a child in preparation for exams.
She specified that, first of all, parents should think about creating optimal conditions for a teenager to study. The place for classes should be cozy and well-lit. Preparation for exams requires a good computer, the Internet and all the necessary resources, including books and stationery.
"The presence of distractions can have a negative impact on the learning process, so the child needs to be quiet while doing tasks. <...> If the child does not have his or her own room, there should be set hours in which he or she does homework, prepares for exams, and no one will disturb him or her," Podsukhina notes.
According to the specialist, during the preparation period, it is important for the schoolchild to keep motivated to study, and for this purpose it is worth setting a joint goal. This goal can be diverse, for example, admission to the desired university or college, getting a mark higher than 80 on the exam or enrollment in a budgetary place. The main thing is that the goal should be clear and realistic.
The expert also recommends that the path to achieving the goal be defined together, as such joint planning reduces anxiety and makes the preparation process more structured. Parent and child go together toward a clearly defined goal.
"All children learn differently: someone better perceives visual information, someone better perceives auditory information. Together with the child, it's worth figuring out which learning methods and strategies suit him or her best, whether it's more comfortable to work in a group or individually," said the educator.
In addition, regular exercise is crucial for preparation, so the regimen is one of the most important aspects. Parents should support the child in planning his time, building discipline and not forgetting the importance of rest.
"A child needs to know that his emotions matter, that his parents understand him. Parents just need to be around, listen to concerns, doubts, support in difficult moments, help to cope with nervous tension", - summarized Podsukhina.
Earlier, on December 5, expert Podsukhina told "Izvestia" about how to pass the USE for high scores. According to her, it is necessary to allocate a specific number of hours to study each subject per week, while not forgetting about rest and the repetition of material passed.
