- Peskov said the Biden administration wants to leave tensions with Russian Federation strained

Reports that the United States is discussing the imposition of tougher sanctions on Russian oil exports are not far from the truth, as the outgoing White House administration plans to leave behind tensions in relations with Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on December 11.
"Many predict attempts by [US President Joe] Biden 's administration to leave an appropriate legacy, a heavy legacy in terms of escalating tensions with Russia. Obviously, the current administration will follow this path and will try to leave this legacy," the Russian leader's spokesman said.
He added that the way in which the United States will tighten its sanctions policy, "you and I will see together."
Earlier, on December 11, Bloomberg agency, citing sources, reported that the Biden administration plans to strengthen sanctions against oil exports from Russia. It was noted that the U.S. leader has long resisted this move, as there are concerns about the jump in energy prices. However, "the Biden administration is now open to more aggressive action" because of the fall in oil prices.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Dec. 10 that the country will continue to apply measures to tighten sanctions against Russia. In addition, she noted that the restrictions would further strengthen Kiev's position along with military aid to Ukraine and the allocation of a $20 billion loan to it.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Western sanctions have become an impetus for the development of Russia's own domestic technologies, although they were intended to contain Russia. According to him, Russia has everything it needs to make a breakthrough in the technological sphere despite the restrictions imposed by other countries.
Western countries increased sanctions pressure on Russia after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
