Israeli actions in the buffer zone on the border with Syria are unlikely to contribute to the stabilization of the situation in the country. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on December 11.

"Strikes, actions in the area of the Golan Heights, in the area of the buffer zone, hardly contribute to the stabilization of the situation in the already destabilized Syria," Peskov said at a briefing.

He noted that the Russian Federation would like to see the situation in Syria stabilized as soon as possible.

On December 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, decided to resign as head of state and leave the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. It was later confirmed that Assad and his family had arrived in Moscow.

On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces of Syria announced the work on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the Syrian government officials remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.

Amid these developments, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the deployment of forces along the Syrian border. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the delineation agreement with Syria has been terminated due to the withdrawal of Syrian troops.

Already on December 10, the Israeli army launched strikes on Syria's largest air bases. Arab Republic Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh said Damascus would notify the UN Security Council about Israel's violation of the country's sovereignty. Iran called on the Security Council to respond to the military incursion, which the Israeli Foreign Ministry described as temporary.

The situation in Syria has escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliation against the militants.
