Auto expert warns of the dangers of cardboard in front of the grille

Installing cardboard in front of engine cooling radiators can lead to serious consequences. Due to the restriction of air flow, there is a risk of engine overheating, Avilon Legend service and parts director Andrei Egarmin said on December 11.
"If the motor overheats, it can lead to its damage, deformation of the cylinder head and other critical malfunctions, and then to the denial of warranty service," Egarmin told Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
In turn, specialists from AutoSpecCenter explained that the cardboard in front of the radiator grille allows for partial blocking of cold air intake, which contributes to accelerated engine warm-up at low temperatures. As a result, the average warm-up time is reduced by three to five minutes, the number of cold starts in winter is reduced, which increases the resource and efficiency of the engine.
At the same time, such a cardboard flap is effective only if the thermostat is in good working order. If the operability of the cooling system is broken, and the car is operated daily, the temperature balance will not be kept. This will lead to violations in the radiator, engine or gearbox, experts warned.
December 5, auto expert Dmitry Babaev said that one of the most common problems of car owners in winter is a frozen windshield. If the electric heating of the glass is not provided, you can use folk and professional methods to combat frost and ice.
Before that, on December 3, auto expert Valery Antyufiev said that a number of Citroen, Peugeot, Cadillac, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz crossovers are not able to demonstrate real reliability in harsh Russian winter operating conditions.
