Daily forest patrols have been organized in Kamchatka Krai. Local residents face a fine for illegal cutting of Christmas trees.

Every year the region holds an auction for the right to harvest coniferous trees for the holiday. Four lots in Atlasovskoye, Yelizovskoye and Klyuchevskoye lesnichestvos were put up for auction. A total of 2.5 thousand trees were sold. In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Christmas trees will be sold at 14 bazaars, as KamchatkaMedia IA specifies.

Administrative responsibility is provided for illegal cutting of trees. If the amount of damage exceeds 5 thousand rubles, the violator faces a criminal case.

Earlier it was reported that about 57% of Russians who decorate their homes for the New Year, prefer an artificial Christmas tree, another 39% of citizens choose a live tree. The remaining 4% use a Christmas tree made with their own hands.
