- The Ministry of Digital Economy says 16 Russian cities will be provided with 5G network by 2030

By 2030, 16 Russian cities will be provided with 5G infrastructure. This was announced on December 11 by the head of the Ministry of Digitization Maksut Shadaev.
"In 2026 they (samples of Russian base stations. - Ed.) will go into production, and we will start building 5G infrastructure in two cities. By 2030, 16 cities will be provided with 5G infrastructure. This is about 16-17 million of our subscribers," the minister said at a meeting in the Federation Council. The broadcast is carried out on the website of the SF.
In addition, he said that by 2030, almost 100% of highways in Russia will be provided with seamless mobile Internet coverage.
In May this year, Russia for the first time launched low-orbit satellites using NTN's 5G standard to communicate with subscribers. The first mission launched in June 2023 and was deemed a complete success.
In March, Shadaev said that 3,000 small settlements in Russia were connected to high-speed internet in 2023.
In early December last year, the Russian government approved a strategy for the development of the communications industry until 2035. Among other things, the document establishes a phased launch of 5G base stations in all cities with a population exceeding 100,000 people.
