Court dismisses ex-judge Kondrat's complaint in bribery mediation case

Moscow City Court has rejected the appeal of former Moscow Arbitration Court judge Elena Kondrat, who was found guilty of bribery mediation on a particularly large scale. This December 11 follows from the court's filing, "Izvestia" familiarized with the decision.

In July 2023, Kondrat was sentenced to nine years in a general regime colony and ordered to pay a fine of 77.9 million rubles. The sentence was declared lawful on October 4 of this year.

She is also banned from holding positions in the judiciary and law enforcement agencies for five years after serving her sentence.

In November 2023, the prosecutor's office appealed to the court of appeal against Kondrat's sentence. According to the position voiced by the prosecutor, the ex-judge did not cooperate with the investigation and did not admit her guilt. Given this, the prosecution asked to add another 2.5 years of colony to the defendant - to change the sentence to 11.5 years. And the fine of Br77 million to increase to Br253 million. Kondrat herself participated in the process via video link.

According to the investigation, in 2020 Elena Kondrat suggested to her colleague, acting arbitration judge Elena Makhalkina, to strike out of the bankruptcy case of the company "Transportation Construction Supply Directorate" several individuals brought to subsidiary liability. The conversation took place in a restaurant, and Kondrat told her colleague that she had been approached by people willing to pay $50,000 for the "service".

After that, Kondrat regularly called and met with her colleague to make the "necessary" decision. However, Makhalkina appealed to law enforcement agencies, and further communication between the women was controlled by FSB officers - during the transfer of money Kondrat was detained. Her son Nikolai Kondrat was sentenced to 20 years in prison for attempted murder of Elena Makhalkina: according to the investigation, he was trying to avenge his mother.
