Zhukov appealed to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on the case of copyright protection for the songs "Hands Up!"

The lead singer of the band "Hands Up! Sergei Zhukov wrote an official appeal to the Chairman of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin, as well as the Chairman of the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation Irina Podnosova with a request for assistance in the case of copyright protection for the songs of the group "Hands Up!". This was reported to "Izvestia" on December 11 by the official representative of the "First Music Publishing House", CEO of IP Codex Natalia Polianchik.

She noted that in the document the petitioners - the singer and LLC "First Music Publishing House" - indicated that they are legitimate market participants who have faced arbitrariness on the part of the music publishing house "Jam", which is represented by its director Andrei Cherkasov.

Also, the lead singer of "Hands Up!" filed three lawsuits in the Arbitration Court of Moscow to recognize the right to his works, performances and phonograms. Cherkasov himself had earlier filed several lawsuits in court to block Internet resources, where the group's songs are posted. Further, after the release of the movie about the group "Hands Up!", he filed another lawsuit against the streaming platforms on which the picture appeared.

In an appeal to the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and the Supreme Court, available at the disposal of "Izvestia", it is stated that it is drawn up "on the fact of outrageous actions to block the movie "Hands Up!", undertaken by Cherkasov Andrey Nikolaevich and affiliated persons". It is specified that the initiator of blocking is LLC "Company Top7".

"LLC "Company Top7" declares that it is the right holder of audiovisual works <...> and other results of intellectual activity from the repertoire of the group "Hands Up!", and demands to pay it as the right holder of funds (for example, from LLC "KINOPOISK" demand 10 million rubles")" - stated in the text of the letter.

It is noted that after Cherkasov learned about the initiation of criminal proceedings against him on claims to the creativity of "Hands Up!", in the case appeared "Company Top7", registered to his wife. Although neither Cherkasov nor the said company has no rights to the activities of the musical collective. According to Sergei Zhukov himself, Cherkasov never had anything to do with the recordings of the group's hits. He has only a "strange document on the transfer of rights to phonograms," signed by the former producer of the group Andrei Malikov in 2006. At that time, he had not worked with the group for seven years and had no rights to transfer ownership of its work.

"In fact, Cherkasov found a gap in the law and put its use on the stream. After all, he annoys not only us, but also many other authors, record companies and users. In fact, such activity is nothing but raiding," TASS quoted Zhukov as saying.

Earlier, on July 7, Zhukov told Izvestia that he had appealed to the Arbitration Court of Moscow over the rights to several hits of "Hands Up!". Then there was information about the filing of a statement of claim by the performer against LLC "Publishing House Jam". Zhukov emphasized that the copyright to take away from him is impossible, as he is the author of the compositions.

After, September 18, it became known that the lead singer of "Hands Up!" wants to sue 5 million rubles from his double. This follows from the Arbitration Court card in the database "Electronic Justice". Zhukov asked to deal with the fact that he is copied by the artist and author of the tribute show Andrei Belyanin. Before that, in 2022, the court banned Belyanin from using the band's trademarks and intellectual property. At that time, the artist renamed his project from "Hands Up Tribute" to "NE Hands Up".
