Seven participants in the riots at Makhachkala airport sentenced in Stavropol region

Alexandrovsky district court of Stavropol region sentenced seven participants of the riots at Makhachkala airport to terms of eight to nine years. This was reported by the Russian Prosecutor General's Office on December 11.

"The court, taking into account the position of the state prosecutor, taking into account the nature and degree of public danger of the committed crimes and the role of each, sentenced the defendants to terms of 8 to 9 years of imprisonment with serving in a penal colony of general regime", - stated in the message on the website of the General Prosecutor's Office.

This is the second verdict against the rioters.

All of them were found guilty under part 2 of article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation in mass riots"), part 3 of article 263.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation in the field of transport security"). One of them was convicted under part 1 of article 318 ("Use of violence against a representative of the authorities").

The court found that on October 29, 2023, Zhanmirza Aliyev, Ali Amirkhanov, Alimurat Babatov, Zapir Batyrbekov, Ramazan Karnayev, Ismail Salmakhanov, Makhach Tuchuyev took part in mass riots at the airport "Uytash" on the grounds of national and religious hatred towards citizens of Israel with the use of violence and destruction of property, as well as refused to comply with the demands of law enforcement officers.

Earlier, on August 23, five rioters were sentenced to terms of up to nine years.

Theriots near Makhachkala airport began in the evening of October 29 last year. The participants came with anti-Israeli posters and chanted slogans in support of Palestine. At some point, part of the crowd broke down the entrance doors and broke into the terminal building of the air harbor. The damage caused to the airport amounted to more than 285 million rubles.

On October 30, 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting on the matter. The head of state also pointed out that the intention to rock the country from within was behind the events. In turn, the head of the republic Sergei Melikov appealed to residents with a request not to let enemies and provocateurs manipulate themselves and sway the situation in the region.

On July 9, 2024, Dagestan Interior Minister Abdurashid Magomedov said that 140 people are in custody in the case of riots. In addition, according to him, more than 1.2 thousand participants of the incident were brought to administrative responsibility.
