Media reported on Biden's plans to strengthen sanctions against Russian oil exports

The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden plans to strengthen sanctions against oil exports from Russia. This was reported by Bloomberg on December 11, citing sources.
"Details of possible new measures are still being worked out, but President Joe Biden's team is considering restrictions that could affect some types of Russian oil exports," the report said.
It is noted that the U.S. president has long resisted this move, as there are concerns about a jump in energy prices. However, "the Biden administration is now open to more aggressive actions" because of the fall in oil prices, specifies "Gazeta.Ru".
His team is ready to take risks when confronting Russia, especially after unsuccessful attempts to "strangle" Russia's energy revenues.
According to the agency, the US has already banned Russian oil imports, but the new sanctions will reverse the policy established after the launch of the special military operation.
In addition, restrictions aimed at the tanker fleet used by the Russian Federation for its oil are being discussed. According to sources, they may be announced in the coming weeks. It is specified that the European Union is planning similar measures until the end of 2024.
On the eve of the US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the state will continue to apply measures to tighten sanctions against Russia. In addition, she noted that the restrictions would further strengthen Kiev's position along with military aid to Ukraine and the allocation of a $20 billion loan to it.
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Western sanctions have become an impetus for the development of Russia's own domestic technologies, although they were intended to contain Russia. According to him, Russia has everything it needs to make a breakthrough in the technological sphere, despite the restrictions imposed by other countries.
Before that, on December 6, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto called the circumvention of sanctions against Russia a European sport. According to Szijjártó, the strategy of the West to pressurize Russia with sanctions has failed and requires changes.
Western countries increased sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation after the start of the special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, which was announced on February 24, 2022.
