Court arrested opera singer Maria Maksakova in absentia


A court has arrested in absentia opera singer and former State Duma deputy Maria Maksakova-Igenbergs (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation), who is accused of publicly calling for the financing of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). The data on December 10 were published on the website of the courts of general jurisdiction of Moscow.
The measure of restraint in the form of detention, in accordance with paragraph 1 part. 2 of Art. 29 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation and Art. 108 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, was elected the day before.
It is specified that the singer is charged under part 2 of article 280.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Public calls for the implementation of activities against the security of the state").
At the moment Maksakova is outside the borders of Russia.
Earlier, September 6, it became known about the initiation of criminal proceedings against the opera singer. The investigation found that Maksakova on her YouTube channel called for activities against the security of Russia. In addition, in the videos, the singer condemned the Russian military and the beginning of a special military operation (SVO).
Before that, on August 19, a Moscow court fined the opera singer 50 thousand rubles for violation of the activities of a foreign agent.
June 28, it was reported that Maksakova, who left for Ukraine, had not paid her debts in Russia. Her debt to the Federal Tax Service amounted to Br532 thousand.
The artist left Russia in May 2022. A year later, in May 2023, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation recognized her as a foreign agent. According to the ministry, the artist "called for the provision of arms to Ukraine, the overthrow of the current state power in the Russian Federation and acted as a respondent on information platforms provided by foreign structures".
