Nabiullina voted online for the design of the new Br1 thousand bill.

Chairman of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina voted online for the design of the reverse side of the Br1 thousand bill. This was reported in the press service of the regulator on December 11.

It was noted that already 400 thousand Russian citizens have taken part in online voting for the design of the bill.

"The Chairman of the Bank of Russia also voted, but we do not disclose the personal choice of the voting participants," the press service of the Central Bank told "RIA Novosti".

The Central Bank's popular vote for the banknote design started on November 29 and will last until December 12. Citizens choose which of the objects of the Volga Federal District (VFD) proposed by the Central Bank will decorate the back of the banknote.

Earlier, December 9, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Sergei Belov said in an interview with "Izvestia" that the updated thousand-dollar bill with a corrected reverse side will be released into circulation, most likely, closer to the end of 2025.

Prior to that, November 28, the Central Bank presented variants of images for the Br1 thousand banknote. The banknote is dedicated to the Volga Federal District. The regulator chose 25 out of about 40 variants of images to replace it, while its front side will remain the same - with images of Nizhny Novgorod. Then Nabiullina noted that the symbols on the banknote "should unite, and not generate disputes".

The modernized thousand was put into circulation on October 16, 2023, but was recalled two days later because the image on the back of the Orthodox Church, which has been used for secular purposes since the beginning of the last century, was without a cross. At the same time, the Syuyumbike tower with a crescent moon was depicted nearby, which caused a flurry of criticism towards the Central Bank from Orthodox activists. Therefore, the regulator decided to completely redesign the reverse side, and the symbols for it are chosen by popular vote.
