- The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Federal Security Service have recorded an increase in the number of telephone frauds

Law enforcement agencies reported an increase in the number of recorded facts of fraud by phone. This was reported by the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk on Wednesday, December 11.
"Employees of divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Federal Security Service of Russia record an increase in the number of facts of telephone fraud, in which the con artists present themselves as employees of law enforcement agencies," - said Volk.
She explained the algorithm by which the attackers work. It is quite simple. The first thing they do is to convince the victim that they are employees of Russian agencies. They emphasize that the conversation is being recorded and threaten them with liability for its disclosure. Then they inform the interlocutor about an allegedly opened criminal case against him or his relatives. Immediately after that, they try to extort money under any pretext.
"Recently, con artists have increasingly begun to inform citizens that from their bank accounts and cards made a transfer of money abroad to finance extremism and terrorism, and threaten responsibility for this," - added the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
But the ultimate goal may be different: having intimidated the victims, the swindlers not only demand to part with the money, but also provoke them to various crimes, including terrorist crimes.
In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Federal Security Service of Russia urge citizens to be very attentive to all incoming calls and messages. Today, technology makes it possible to easily fake the voice and video image of any person.
Volk reminded that employees of the agencies never notify citizens about criminal prosecution by phone. Only in person.
Earlier, on December 5, it was reported that in the capital there are new groups of scammers who deceive people, pretending to deliver flowers from a "secret admirer". On the new scheme of swindlers warned the acting head of the department to combat the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow Vladimir Prasolov. It all starts with the fact that the courier arrives with a bouquet of flowers at an address where no one has ordered a gift. The next day the recipient calls back allegedly from the delivery service and ask to provide a code to confirm that the order is received. But these turn out to be identification numbers to confirm financial transactions.
