The US administration maintains contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition, including through mediators. This was stated by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at a briefing on Tuesday, December 10.

"I can say that we are in contact with all Syrian groups, including through mediation structures, as we do everything we can to support the Syrian people during this transitional period," she said.

At the same time, Jean-Pierre added that many opposition leaders are voicing theses with which Washington agrees rather than disagrees.

The day before, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said during a speech at the State Department that the United States wants to avoid the fragmentation of Syria and mass migration of its citizens. He said the United States should be ready to support the Syrian people as they begin to rebuild their country and choose a new direction.

On the same day, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that Russia will do everything possible to achieve sustainable and long-term peace in the Middle East.

On the eve, December 8, the Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, decided to leave the post of head of state and leave the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. Russia is in contact with the Syrian opposition and is taking measures for the safety of its citizens. It was later confirmed that Assad and his family had arrived in Moscow.

On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces in Syria said it was working to form a transitional authority. In turn, SAR Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the Syrian government ministers remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.

The situation in Syria has escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliatory actions against the militants.
