Syria and Ukraine will be among the main topics of discussion at the upcoming meeting of the G7 leaders, which will be held on December 13. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications in the White House National Security Council John Kirby to journalists on December 10.

"Syria and Ukraine will absolutely be on the agenda for the G7. <...> You can expect these two topics to be front and center," he reported.

Kirby added that in addition to these two key topics, other issues will also be considered and will be announced later.

Earlier, on December 6, the media learned that the G7 leaders plan to hold an online meeting next week on Friday, December 13. It was specified that the meeting would be devoted to issues of conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.

On December 4, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that $50bn of Russian assets would be transferred to Kiev in the near future. He specified that the West has a commitment to provide training and equipment for every Ukrainian fighter that Ukraine mobilizes.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Kiev amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbas, which was announced to start on February 24, 2022.
