Russian Railways will be the general contractor for the construction of the Moscow - St. Petersburg High-Speed Railway

"Russian Railways" (RZD) has concluded a contract with "High-Speed Railway Dvve Stolitsy", the company will become the general contractor of the main concession section of the high-speed railway (HSR) Moscow - St. Petersburg. RZD reported about it in its Telegram-channel.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Head of Russian Railways Andrey Makarov and General Director of "High-Speed Railway Two Capitals" Oleg Toni. The ceremony was attended by the head of Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov and Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit.

"We have made another new important step in the realization of high-speed traffic in Russia. The country's first highway will be launched already in 2028 and will connect six subjects of the Russian Federation, where more than 40 million people live," Starovoit said at the ceremony.

He recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin reported that in the future similar dedicated and high-speed routes will connect other subjects of the country.

"The construction of the main section of the high-speed highway will begin after the approval of the design documentation, the development of which is now in full swing. It is planned to start its construction in the middle of 2025," Belozerov said.

He added that the highest quality construction and engineering resources of the country are used in the project of the highway. This makes it possible to use the most modern technologies of railway transportation. A new generation infrastructure will be created for the movement of high-speed railroads, it will be characterized by high durability and energy efficiency.

Earlier, on March 14, Putin gave the start of the construction of the Moscow - St. Petersburg High-Speed Railway and the 7th power unit of the Leningrad NPP in the videoconference mode. He emphasized that Russian developments and equipment should be used during construction, which is important for strengthening technological independence in the future. The head of state expressed confidence that all construction plans would be realized professionally and at the highest level, because these projects are very important for Russia.
