The visit of the incumbent Moldovan President Maia Sandu to Brussels for protocol meetings and photo shoots with European Commission (EC) and NATO officials amid the energy crisis in the country shows her true face and "care" for her people. Igor Dodon, former head of the republic and leader of the opposition Party of Socialists, shared this opinion on December 10.

"Sandu should have flown not to Brussels, but urgently went to Moscow <...> or, at the very least, went to Kiev and negotiated gas transit through Ukraine for the needs of Moldovan citizens," he wrote in his Telegram channel.

The politician noted that Sandu has often said that she has good relations with the Ukrainian authorities and pointed out that it was time to use them to "prevent a complete collapse of the energy system, an economic and social catastrophe."

"I also believe it is urgent to create a unified anti-crisis headquarters with the participation of Chisinau and Tiraspol, because the problems will be common for all our citizens, on both banks of the Dniester," Dodon concluded.

Earlier, on December 6, Transnistria imposed an economic state of emergency due to the current difficult situation in the energy sector. The president of the unrecognized DMR, Vadim Krasnoselsky, noted that negative trends in this sphere have been registered for years. In particular, the full development of the country's economy is hindered by external factors, such as military actions in Ukraine and instability in Moldova.

The day before it became known that Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean demanded from the Parliament to declare a state of emergency in the energy sector. The state of emergency will take effect from December 16 and will remain in force "until the problem situation is overcome".

On November 26, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan said that a possible termination of gas supplies to Transnistria by the Russian Federation after stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine would turn into a humanitarian catastrophe. According to him, any state should avoid such a situation.

In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was not giving up gas transit through Ukraine. According to the head of state, Gazprom plans to fulfill all its obligations under long-term contracts.
