Russia needs to have modern domestic facilities for building ships for international cargo transportation. This was stated by Nikolai Patrushev, aide to the Russian President and Chairman of the Maritime Board, during his visit to the Volgograd Region on December 10.

"Under the conditions of sanctions imposed by unfriendly countries on maritime transportation with the participation of Russian persons, it is necessary to have modern and independent of the external conjuncture domestic capacities for the construction of vessels to perform international cargo transportation," said the aide to the Russian leader.

In addition, during the working trip the topic concerning the prospects for the organization of transportation by river transport, including within Volgograd, was considered. Patrushev also drew attention to the use of the Volga-Don shipping channel and the realization of the project of the international corridor North-South.

During the meeting with representatives of federal and regional authorities Patrushev discussed the tasks related to import substitution, as well as the production of domestic ship equipment. In addition, the high industrial and logistical potential of the Volgograd Region was noted.

On December 4 Patrushev called the Sredne-Nevsky shipbuilding plant in St. Petersburg the leader in the field of composite shipbuilding in Russia. Patrushev urged the plant to develop the existing competences in this sphere and noted the importance of passenger liners and catamarans produced by the enterprise.
