The man from Kazan who killed 31 pensioners has had his punishment upheld


The Fourth Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Nizhny Novgorod upheld the life sentence of Radik Tagirov ("Volga maniac"), who killed 31 pensioners. This follows from the message published on the website of the court on December 10.
In February 2024, the state prosecution requested life imprisonment for him. In March, the Supreme Court of Tatarstan found Tagirov guilty of 31 murders, three attempts, 34 robberies and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
According to the criminal, the investigation was biased. He said that his explanations were not considered and asked the court to return the case to the prosecutor. In turn, the state prosecutor considered that there were no grounds to satisfy the complaints.
Tagirov was detained in December 2020. On December 2, the suspect was charged under paragraphs "a", "z" of part 2 of article 105, part 3 of article 30, article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder of two or more persons out of selfish motives, attempted murder").
During the interrogation he admitted his guilt in committing the crimes. Tagirov said that he introduced himself as an employee of the housing and utilities sector or social services, and after that he went to the apartments of elderly women, then killed them and stole their savings. The detainee also explained how he chose the victims, noting that he did not know them, as they were random.
According to investigators, the accused committed the crimes from March 2011 to October 2012 in different cities of Russia. Investigators also found out that Tagirov had two previous convictions - for weapons possession and theft.
