The situation with refugees in Russia looks much better than in Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this at a meeting with members of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (CDHR) on December 10.

"Our refugee situation looks different, many times better than [in] Ukraine itself. People from Ukraine <...> through various channels through Turkey, through other countries are trying to enter the Russian Federation. We see and record this flow," the head of state said.

He pointed out that it was necessary to deal with situations when people who came directly from the line of contact were placed in poorly equipped temporary accommodation centers (TACs).

Putin added that the refugee problem is acute and not easy to solve.

Earlier, on November 30, the British newspaper The Times reported that about 5 million Ukrainian refugees were expected to arrive in the European Union (EU) due to possible problems with lighting and heating in winter.

The chairman of the council of the Other Ukraine movement, Viktor Medvedchuk, said on 29 November that Ukrainian citizens were leaving the country en masse for new regions of Russia. In addition, Ukrainian citizens who became refugees in the EU are fleeing to the Russian Federation- there they faced problems with settling in, language barriers and inability to find decent jobs.

Ukrainian media reported on November 25 that a significant part of Ukrainian citizens would like to return to new regions of Russia. One of the main reasons for the desire to obtain a Russian passport and the right to own housing under the laws of the Russian Federation is the housing issue.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
