Beglov reported on St. Petersburg's achievements in waste management

Over the three years of reforming the waste management sphere, St. Petersburg has done significant work, thanks to which it has moved up to 7th place in the Green Award rating, said the city's governor Alexander Beglov.
"In 2022 we were only in 67th place, then we rose to 16th and now we are in the top ten regions. After the reform, the new system of TKO handling has become transparent and controllable. The high place in the rating reflects the scale of the work done: we not only provide systematic work on waste management and fulfill the indicators of the national project "Ecology". The priority is the development of waste management infrastructure and the creation of new modern facilities. This year, we launched the second phase of the Volkhonka KPO and started construction of the Ostrovsky KPO, the first facility of the Nevsky Environmental Operator in the Leningrad Region. Our plans include one more facility in the city and two more in the Leningrad Region. I am confident that the continuation of this work in cooperation with the federal center and the REO PPK will contribute to the successful achievement of indicators in both regions," said Governor Alexander Beglov.
According to the results of 2024, St. Petersburg took the seventh place in the ranking on TKO handling. The rating was formed within the "Regions of Russia" nomination of the Green Award-2024, organized by the Russian Ecological Operator (ROO). On the instructions of Governor Alexander Beglov the award from the hands of the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov was accepted today in Moscow by the Vice-Governor of St. Petersburg Alexey Korabelnikov.
Recalling the task set by Russian President Vladimir Putin to sort 100% of waste by 2030 and recycle at least a quarter of it, Alexander Beglov noted that due to the commissioning of new facilities in 2024, the percentage of solid waste treatment in St. Petersburg increased from 56.9% in 2023 to 74.8% in 2024.
