The Russian military has ensured the safe conduct of the next rotation of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission observers at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant (ZNPP). This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 10.

"The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation together with units of the Rosgvardiya ensured the safe conduct of the next, 25th, rotation of observers of the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency at Zaporozhskaya NPP", - stated in the message of the department.

It is noted that to ensure safety in the places of the rotation near Kamenskoye in Zaporizhzhya region from 07:00 to 19:00 a ceasefire was declared, the regime was observed by the Russian military, the Defense Ministry specified.

Russian sappers checked the area for unexploded foreign and Ukrainian ammunition before moving in. After the reconnaissance, the Russian Armed Forces ensured a safe passage of the observers to the station. The agency specified that three inspectors arrived as part of the IAEA mission to observe and assess the safety condition of ZNPP.

Earlier, on December 5, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the situation around ZNPP, while the hostilities are going on near the facility, continues to be tense and unstable. Grossi added that the situation with the power supply to ZNPP is also a matter of deep concern for him. He intends to discuss this issue with the Russian and Ukrainian sides in the near future.

Before that, on December 1, it was reported that the high-voltage power supply line "Ferrosplavnaya-1" at Zaporizhzhya NPP was disconnected by protection action. After that, the NPP's own needs were powered from the 750 kV line "Dniprovska". Later the same day, the 330 kV high-voltage power supply line "Ferrosplavnaya-1" was put back into operation.

On November 20, Grossi said that the situation at ZNPP is unstable. According to him, all six reactors of the plant are still in cold shutdown mode. On this basis, the agency continues to insist that none of them should be restarted as long as threats to ZNPP's nuclear and physical safety remain.

Zaporizhzhya Oblast, where the nuclear power plant is located, became part of the Russian Federation following a referendum in September 2022. Since that time, Zaporizhzhya NPP has been under constant IAEA control.
