New fines for traffic violations may become effective on January 1

Administrative fines for a number of traffic violations may be increased from January 1, 2025. The bill was published on December 10 in the electronic database of the State Duma after approval by the Committee on State Building and Legislation.
In particular, it is proposed to increase the size of fines for speeding by 50%. If now they are from Br500 to Br5 thousand, depending on the degree of excess, then in case of adoption of the amendments will be set at the level of Br750 to Br7.5 thousand.
In addition, it is envisaged to increase fines for failure to comply with the rules of seat belt use (from Br1 thousand to Br1.5 thousand) and causing minor injury to health (from Br2.5-5 thousand to Br3.7-7.5 thousand).
The document will be considered at the plenary session on Thursday, December 12.
Earlier in the day it was reported that the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation proposed to send 25% of revenues from fines for traffic violations to the federal budget. Currently, the fines paid by drivers are fully credited to the budgets of the regions. In 2023, their amount amount amounted to 119.2 billion rubles.
