The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) has sentenced in absentia a Ukrainian mercenary, Georgian citizen Tornike Tivadze to 14 years in prison. This was reported by the prosecutor's office of the DNR on December 10.

"The Supreme court of the Donetsk People's Republic in absentia passed a sentence in a criminal case against 32-year-old citizen of Georgia Tornike Tivadze. He was found guilty under part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict")", - stated in the message of the Department.

The court found that from March 2022 to July 2024 Tivadze participated in hostilities on the side of Ukraine in the ranks of the Georgian National Legion (the organization is recognized as terrorist and banned in Russia). The mercenary was equipped with firearms and ammunition and was given special outfit. Tivadze visited several points of contact and received a reward equivalent to more than 4.2 million rubles.

In social networks the mercenary from Georgia repeatedly published statements aimed at anti-Russian propaganda.

The court took into account the position of the state prosecutor and sentenced Tivadze in absentia to imprisonment for 14 years, which he will have to serve in a strict regime colony after his arrest.

Earlier, on December 5, the Supreme Court of the DNR sentenced in absentia a 40-year-old mercenary from Georgia, Georgi Akhalaia, to a 14-year term of imprisonment in a strict regime colony. The man came to Ukraine and underwent military training there in March-October 2022. From May to August this year, he participated in combat operations as part of the Georgian National Legion. The mercenary received a reward in the amount of 2.1 million rubles.
