Germany has accepted the U.S. narrative about the harm of cooperation with China, thus putting itself before a choice: to regain sovereignty and economic independence or to continue dependence and economic decline. This was the opinion shared by Cyrus Janssen, an American geopolitical analyst, on his YouTube channel on December 10.

"In 2023, the EU will spend a record $65 billion on LNG from the US, an increase of 70% over previous periods. But it's not just about cost, it's about price. LNG from the US costs 40% more than gas from Russia. Instead of helping its ally, the US saw an opportunity to make a profit, and the German industry's advantage in cheap energy disappeared," he said.

The analyst noted that under the newly elected President of the United States, Republican Donald Trump, this trend will only intensify, as he is expected to repeal a number of measures to protect the environment, which will lead to a sharp increase in oil and gas production in the United States. In such a situation, the already weak European economy will face chaos because it will go along with Washington out of fear that the Trump administration may impose trade duties on EU goods.

According to Jansen, the United States has already signaled that LNG exports will be a crucial condition in future negotiations on an EU-U.S. trade deal. This agreement will force Europe and especially the FRG to pay a high price for American energy.

"At the same time Germany is facing rapidly rising prices, many industries have fled to the U.S. because of rising costs, weakening labor unions and the threat from potential duties. Today, nearly two-thirds of German manufacturers have at least partially moved their production abroad, leaving a hole in Germany's industrial base. This is the 'devastation' of German industry," he concluded, recalling that the U.S. experienced a similar destructive deindustrialization in the 1970s.

Earlier, on November 25, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel pointed out that the rejection of Russian gas had caused significant damage to German business and industry. She noted that certain agreements had been reached with current U.S. President Joe Biden on the use of Nord Stream 2 if energy resources were not used as a weapon. "As a result, gas never went through Nord Stream-2," Merkel concluded.

Before that, on November 15, German businessman Ulf Schneider said that anti-Russian sanctions only harm Germany and have no positive effect.

In October, EP deputy Lebosch Blaga said in an interview with Izvestia that sanctions against Russia mean a long-term prospect of economic suicide in Europe. He noted that restrictions against Russia do not harm it - they harm EU countries.

In September, it was reported that German industry is experiencing the most serious recession in the existence of the FRG. According to experts, the dynamics of industrial production in Germany is historically unprecedented. At the same time, Politico newspaper reported that German residents can no longer ignore the fact of a serious crisis in the country's economy, due to which there is tension in society.
