The test of checking MTPL insurance through traffic cameras has begun in Russia

In Russia, test checks for the presence of a valid CMTPL insurance policy through photo-video registration cameras have begun. This was reported by the head of the Russian Union of Motor Insurers (RUIA) Evgeny Ufimtsev, reports the press service of the information project "MTPL: public expertise".
According to Ufimtsev, so far drivers are not penalized with fines for the absence of "auto insurance" from camera checks: it has been decided to send them "letters of happiness", so-called notifications of the absence of a policy. In technical terms to check the presence of MTPL insurance with the help of cameras everything is ready.
"But I think that the experiment will quickly show that most often drivers who do not buy a MTPL policy are those who violate traffic rules. And then it will be possible to introduce fines," the Insurance News Agency quoted Ufimtsev as saying.
Now the fine for a repeated violation related to the lack of CMTPL insurance policy is proposed to increase from Br800 to Br3-5 thousand, said the head of RAMI.
November 26, the State Duma passed in the first reading of the bill on the introduction of a fine of up to Br5 thousand for repeated driving without a CMTPL policy. The Russian Union of Auto Insurers supported the bill, but noted that the new penalty would be effective only if the violation is recorded by automatic cameras.
