Brazil's vice president has temporarily assumed some of the duties of head of state

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has temporarily taken over some of the duties of hospitalized head of state Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the Globo newspaper reported on December 10.
According to its information, Alckmin will present the Brazilian leader at a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo on the same day.
Several events are on the schedule, including a reception in honor of Fico, a bilateral meeting, the signing of documents and a press statement, the newspaper indicated.
Earlier in the day, the Brazilian president was urgently hospitalized due to a brain hemorrhage. Medics called it the result of a head injury that Lula da Silva suffered in October at his home. The politician underwent surgery to remove the hematoma. He was reported to be in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
