Kursk regional court sentenced in absentia to 14 years in prison 36-year-old citizen of New Zealand Jordan O'Brien, accused of participation in the conflict on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). About it on Tuesday, December 10, reported the joint press service of the judicial system of the region.

"The court found Jordan O'Brien guilty of committing a crime under part 3 of article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and imposed a sentence of 14 years of imprisonment in a penal colony of strict regime", - stated in the message of the department in Telegram-channel.

According to the investigation, in August 2024, the man illegally invaded the Kursk region, where he took part in military operations as part of the AFU. For this he received a reward equivalent to more than 1.3 million rubles, which was confiscated.

It is noted that the mercenary is on an international wanted list.

Earlier, on December 5, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) sentenced in absentia a 40-year-old mercenary from Georgia Georgi Akhalai for participation in the conflict on the side of the AFU. He was found guilty under part 3 of article 359 of the Russian Criminal Code ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict").
