Doctor-therapist Natalia Leontieva assessed the impact of drafts and wet feet on the occurrence of colds. According to the doctor, when the feet are wet, blood vessels in them narrow to keep the heat inside the body. This can cause poor circulation and lower immunity, making the body more vulnerable to viruses and bacteria.

Drafts are also dangerous because they create sudden temperature changes, which can cause the body to cool down and lower the immune system's defenses. But such phenomena do not directly cause disease, reports 360.ru.

"It is well known that viruses and bacteria cause diseases, not wet feet and draughts. Nevertheless, hypothermia reduces immunity, increasing the likelihood of contracting infections through contact with their pathogens," the doctor explained in a conversation with RuNews24.ru.

To avoid catching colds due to wet feet and drafts, Leontieva recommended avoiding prolonged stay in the cold, dressing warmer and trying to move around outside. The doctor recommended closing windows and doors in case of severe frosts, RT reports.

"If it is necessary to ventilate the room, open the windows only on one side to create a small air flow and avoid drafts," she concluded.

In turn, otorhinolaryngologist, professor of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and the Department of Microbiology and Virology of the N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Institute of Medical Sciences of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Medical Sciences Alexander Gurov told in a conversation with aif.ru about the causes of sore throat. According to the specialist, in most cases, the causative agents of upper respiratory tract diseases are ARVI.

Director of strategic research department of the agency DSM Group Yulia Nechaeva told the agency of city news "Moscow" that since January 2023 the cost of cold medicine in Russian pharmacies increased by 18.5%.

November 18, Director of the Scientific Information Center for Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections Georgy Vikulov said in a conversation with NSN that noroviruses are active in the fall and winter period.

Earlier, on October 23, pediatrician Maryam Sayfulina told "Izvestia" about the causes of pneumonia. According to the specialist, pneumonia often occurs after other diseases, such as acute respiratory viral infections, which lead to a decrease in immunity.
