Trudeau promised to respond to Trump when he imposes 25% duty on Canadian goods

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that Ottawa will take retaliatory measures if U.S. President-elect Donald Trump imposes 25 percent duties on all goods of the country. About this on December 9 writes Bloomberg.
"Let's not kid ourselves in any way or form: 25 percent tariffs on everything that goes to the United States would be devastating to the Canadian economy," he said at a speech at the Chamber of Commerce.
Trudeau called such measures unfair, noting that the country is looking for ways to respond.
The Canadian politician also recalled how in 2018 Ottawa's response to Trump's imposition of tariffs on steel and aluminum led to their cancellation, Gazeta.Ru noted.
"One of the most important things we have to do is not to panic," the Prime Minister said, arguing that Canada will need a thoughtful approach to reach an agreement with Trump and avoid harming both economies.
Earlier on December 3, Trump said during a meeting with Trudeau that Canada could become the 51st US state if Ottawa fails to address illegal migration and drug smuggling. The President-elect of the United States noted that already on the day of his inauguration, January 20, 2025, will impose import duties of 25% on all Canadian goods if Ottawa does not manage to fundamentally change the situation with migration across the Canadian border.
Prior to that, on November 25, it became known about the readiness of the Canadian authorities to increase defense spending in order to more quickly reach the level corresponding to NATO standards in terms of military indicators with the cooperation of the Trump administration.
On November 6, Trudeau held a telephone conversation with Trump, who won the election of the American leader, congratulating the president-elect on his second term and discussing with him bilateral relations between Canada and the United States.
