Pete Hegseth, candidate of US President-elect Donald Trump for the post of Pentagon leader, believes that the media gave him a "show trial". He said this on Tuesday, December 10, to the Fox News television channel.

"The left is trying to turn this into a media trial into a show trial and we're not going to let that happen. I'm going to walk through the door of every one of these senators like an open book, ready to answer their questions because they deserve answers," he said.

The U.S. defense secretary nominee also rejected allegations of sexual harassment, saying they have been investigated and found to be unfounded. He accused the leftists of slander, claiming they were spreading false information in the media to smear his reputation before the official Senate hearings.

Earlier, on December 5, it was reported that Hegseth's nomination for Defense Secretary is in danger of being derailed due to strong opposition from a number of Republican senators who express serious concerns about his nomination. They believe that it will negatively affect the reputation of Trump and make it difficult for Republicans in the Senate.

Before that, on December 2, it became known that Pete Hegseth was previously fired from two non-profit organizations (NPO) to protect the interests of veterans for being at work in a state of alcohol intoxication, obscene appearance and embezzlement of company funds for personal use. It was noted that the lawyer of the candidate for the post of head of the Pentagon refused to comment to the media and called the former colleagues of his ward petty and envious.

On November 13, Trump nominated Hegseth for the post of head of the Secretary of Defense. He also clarified that his nominee sincerely believes that "America comes first." Trump expressed confidence that with the new head of the Pentagon, the US Army will become great again.
